Art and Architecture
The architecture of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montenero is a stunning reflection of its historical context. The church’s façade, with its simple yet elegant lines, harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding landscape of vineyards and Mediterranean scrub. Inside, the sanctuary houses a revered 16th-century image of the Madonna, which replaced a lost Byzantine icon. This artwork is not only a focal point for worship but also a testament to the rich artistic heritage of the region. The sanctuary also features thirteen votive aedicules along the path to the church, each dedicated to the Madonna and serving as markers of faith. These small chapels are adorned with intricate tile work and offer moments of reflection for those making the pilgrimage.Local Culture and Traditions
