The "PADULA DI LU SALONI" (or pond Saloni), is a small "wetland" located between Cannigione and Arzachena. It has an area of 387 hectares (of which about 30 flooded) and is an oasis of wildlife protection established in 1979. The "PADULA DI LU SALONI" as well as having a typical vegetation, is a place of wintering and nesting for many species of water birds, in addition, you can observe various types of invertebrates and several species of freshwater fish. The pond is fed by the Rio Petra Longa, by the Rio l'Impitratu and, not always, by the Rio San Giovanni. Ideal habitat for the nesting of the marsh harrier, the red heron and the sultan chicken, sometimes, it also hosts the black stork and the osprey, which find shelter among the rushes, the tamarisks, the willows and the typical marsh plants. The fish fauna consists of numerous mullets, as well as tenches, eels and tortoises.
