History and Origins
Art and Architecture
The architectural style of Pieve di San Lorenzo is striking, characterized by its Romanesque design, which features robust columns, rounded arches, and a harmonious façade. Inside, the church houses an impressive collection of artworks that reflect the artistic legacy of the region. Notably, it is home to the only work of Giotto in Mugello, a poignant “Madonna and Child” that captures the divine tenderness characteristic of the master’s style. In addition to Giotto’s masterpiece, visitors can admire a “Madonna in Trono col Bambino” by Agnolo Gaddi and “La Vergine e i Santi Francesco e Domenico” by Matteo Rosselli. The apse, entirely frescoed by Galileo Chini, further enhances the church’s artistic significance, showcasing the vibrant colors and intricate designs that breathe life into the space.Local Culture and Traditions
