The fountain was created at the turn of the 20th century for Strasbourg by Adolf von Hildebrand. In 1918, after the city was occupied by France, the fountain was dismantled and transported to Munich. On the pond, surrounded by cupids and aquatic creatures, there is a bronze statue depicting Rhine, the father of all German rivers.
